2004 Pelerin Syrah Mesa Del Sol - A lot of big California Syrahs are just that, big, and not to mention boring as well. But Chris Weidemann, who trained with John Kongsgaard, has crafted a truly superb Syrah. Sadly he could only make 3 barrels. The fruit came from the well-exposed upper slope of the immaculately managed and organically farmed Mesa del Sol Vineyard in Arroyo Seco. This powerful, muscular Syrah is stunning in its depth and flavor complexity. Rich and mouthcoating, and endowed with purity and elegance that make it amazingly delicious to drink. What a statement. Bravo! Only 75 cases made. |
