[Wine Spectator: 92, Robert Parker: 90, Special size: 1.5 liter magnum] Ripe, intense and deeply concentrated, this is quite an impressive wine. It's rich and well focused with currant and blackberry flavors and ripe tannins. It needs some time, but try it with a big ol' steak and you'll see how good it really is. This tribute from Ray Signorello Jr. to his father Ray Sr. is probably the best offering from Signorello to date. Ray Sr. was quite a character that unfortunately passed away long before his time. With his passing, Ray Jr. assumed the day-to-day operation, and with winemaker Pierre Birebent, has steered the winery on a slow, but successful path to prominence. The Padrone is an intense blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a rocky vineyard that yields only one ton of fruit per acre. |
